This study-unit is to train the educators in the Cultural Orientation component within the Cultural Integration course - as established by the government in 2018. The study unit introduces the educators to the curricular content pertaining to the 'Culture' component of the Migrant Integration Programme. It also assists the educators in developing a pedagogy suitable for adult migrants. All this will be formulated on robust inclusive ethical ethos and a social justice perspective.

Study-unit Aims

The study-unit will acquaint the students with the curricular content pertaining to the 'Culture' component of the Migrant Integration Programme. It will also introduce the participants in adult and migrant pedagogy and furthermore it will assist participants in developing an inclusive ethical ethos and a social justice perspective.


Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

  • understand and apply the curricular content pertaining to the 'Culture' component of the Migrant Integration Programme;
  • make use of adult pedagogy for a migrant community;
  • develop and understand an inclusive and ethical ethos, and develop a social justice perspective;
  • demonstrate critical thinking to assist the pedagogical development of adult migrant learners;
  • engage with diversity issues and questions;
  • formulate an ethical understanding of social diversity.

Learning Outcomes: Skills

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

  1. Key/transferable skills:
    • Demonstrate leadership and class management;
    • Perform public speaking;
    • Analyse reflectively.
  2. Other skills:
    • Engage with diversity;
    • Participate in team work;
    • Develop sensitivity toward social issues.
